Dental Veneers

For many people seeking a cosmetic improvement to their smile, dental veneers are an excellent solution. It is a quick process and only minimal changes are needed to the patient’s teeth to permit their placement.

Veneers are paper-thin, but very strong, shells of porcelain placed over the front of teeth to give them a more beautiful appearance. Porcelain has a similar quality to a patient’s own teeth, including having the natural look of tooth material.

  • Dental Problems Solved by Veneers

Dental veneers can be used to correct many dental problems which might otherwise require extensive dental work. This includes:

    • Deep staining
    • Uneven or irregular shape
    • Gaps between teeth
    • Moderate misalignment
    • Chipping
    • Worn-down teeth
    • Uneven lengths

In just a couple of weeks, a person who has been unhappy with their smile for years can have a brilliant new smile they love to show off. Their teeth will also be strengthened and protected from further harm.

  • The Dental Veneer Process

This process starts with a consultation with Dr. Bernard Lynch to determine the patient’s goals and ensure that veneers are the best solution. An examination will ensure that the health of the teeth and gums will permit successful placement of veneers. If there is another problem, such as night grinding, which would undermine the long-term success of veneers, that must be addressed as well.

Once a patient is determined to be a good candidate for veneers, detailed images are taken, using either molds or digital scanning. These images will either be sent to a lab so they can manufacture the veneers, or they will be used to create the veneers in-house. The system used depends on the needs of the patient.

A patient’s teeth will need minor preparation before placement of the shells. The surface of the tooth will either be etched or an extremely thin layer of enamel will be removed to permit a perfect fit of the veneers.

When the veneers are ready, Dr. Lynch will test each one to ensure they fit perfectly and make any adjustments needed. Each tooth to receive a veneer will then be coated with a strong cement and the veneer will be fit onto the tooth. A special light will quickly harden the cement and a final inspection cleans away any residue. You are now ready to show off a bright, new smile!

  • Planning Your New Smile

Could veneers give you the smile you dream of? Here are a couple of things to consider.

It’s not necessary to place veneers on all the teeth at one time. Some patients choose this treatment for just a few teeth that have suffered damage. In that case, the porcelain color is matched to your other teeth.

Veneers resist staining, but you will need to continue your usual good care of your teeth with a proper, daily regimen of brushing and flossing, plus regular visits to our office to keep all surfaces of your teeth scrubbed clean of tartar and polished to a high shine.

Your teeth and gums must be in good condition before the placement of veneers, so if you are aware of any problems, such as sensitive teeth or puffy gums, please see us right away so we can get started on improving the health and strength of your natural teeth.

When you leave our office with your brilliant smile, we will be just as delighted as you are with that final result. Please call our office for a consultation to start you on your way! Call 703-596-1555  today.

"When I first met Dr. Lynch at Dental Care Burke, I had serious dental issues---periodontal disease, ill-fitting crowns, several teeth in dire need of root canals, and still others requiring veneers.  Throughout these procedures, Dr. Lynch has been attentive, caring, and engaging, but more importantly, he has always been totally focused on the task at hand.  I have high regard for Dr. Lynch for whom I believe dentistry is a passion and for whom the end result, the final product, cannot be less than perfect.  What more can a patient ask for?..."

"I had been very anxious about my teeth for some time before visiting Dr. Lynch’s office. Age, finances and no dental insurance had my teeth in a terrible state. The staff was so friendly and caring that I was soon put at ease.

Dr. Lynch took extra time to discuss my situation and explain all the options available to me. I left feeling quite confident that I had made the right choice in choosing Dr Lynch’s office and would recommend him to anyone."
