When complete, a dental implant is composed of a porcelain crown mounted securely to a titanium base. That slender titanium post acts as your new tooth’s “root,” giving your replacement tooth a sturdy and stable foundation.

  • What Steps Are Involved in Providing Dental Implants?

    The first step in receiving implants is verifying the health of your teeth and gums and the soundness of the bone in the part of your jaw that will receive the implant. If bone mass in the area to be treated has been lost, then a bone graft will be needed first to build this bone up. 


    When you’re ready to start receiving your new implants, the process starts with placing the carefully-machined titanium posts in the bone of your jaw. These will be allowed to heal thoroughly. As the healing takes place, the bone in your jaw will bond tightly to the titanium implant. 


    When the bone is well-healed, an attachment called an abutment will be added to the top of your implant. Then the area is once again allowed to heal. Finally, a porcelain crown is created to match your other teeth. This crown is secured to the abutment and you can now care for this new tooth just like you care for your natural teeth. Twice-daily brushing with a soft brush, daily flossing and regular visits to our office will protect the integrity of this new tooth. 

  • Implant Dentures

    Dental implants have many applications. They can be used to replace a single tooth or several teeth. They are also effective acting as anchors for bridges when a number of teeth in a row are missing, and they can secure full or partial dentures. When implants are used to anchor your denture, there are no more problems with the denture slipping while you are eating or talking.


    As an added bonus, dental implants stimulate the bone in your jaw like your natural teeth do. When a tooth is missing, that tooth’s supporting bone lacks the usual stimulation of biting and chewing. Eventually that bone will begin to break down and can collapse. This collapse can change the shape of a person’s face and their looks. Replacing missing teeth with dental implants helps preserve the bone structure of your face.
